Safety Tips Before You Go and On The Road

December 15, 2016 | western

The holidays are approaching fast, and many of you will be having family and friends visiting and for some of you traveling. If you are traveling, have a friend, neighbor, or relative keep an eye on your home and make sure your home is secure. Also get with the post office, or any delivery service to hold your mail or items upon your return as to not let individuals know that you are not at home. Before you leave, make sure your house appears “lived-in”.
Lock all doors and windows, set household lights (inside and out) on timers.
Trim your hedges and bushes so thieves cannot have a place to hide out.
Have a neighbor park a car in your driveway to make it appear as if someone is home.
Have a neighbor pick up your mail and newspapers while you are away or have them held at the post office.
Invest in an alarm. An alarm system controls access points to your home and lets you know if someone has invaded your space.
If you are traveling alone, tell a friend or family your “travel plan” so they will know where you are going, the route you plan to take, when you plan to arrive and how to contact you. If you deviate from that plan, let someone know. Planning ahead is always the best plan for your safety and the safety of your home.

River Oaks MHC office will be closed December 26th and will re-open on December 27th, have a great weekend and safe trip. For more info: http://gutsytraveler.com/holiday-safety-tips-for-home-theft-travel-and-when-you-go-out-on-the-town/
